Convict Lake

On our way home from Tonopah we went over and caught 395 just below Mammoth Lakes.
These pictures are of Convict Lake the is about 20 miles south of Mammoth.

The last time we were here ampule of years ago, I had to hold Joyce up  so she could take pictures because the wind was blowing so hard.  On the trip is was about 68 and calm.

As we are leaving we could see another storm trying to make its was over the mountains.

Tonopah Mines

A visit to Tonopah
The town of Tonopah.  The mines started about 1905.
Nice way to get into the mine!

There are many different mines on this hill. This is the Desert Queen Hoist House.

This maybe the most important house on the site.  If you look close you can see that it is a 2 holer.

This was the vault for the mines. Somebody blew the door off in the 1960's.
Nothing to be found because the mines closed in the mid-20's.

Hi Tech! This is a gas powered jack hammer.  Others on the site were run by compressed air.

The motors that run the compressors.

The compressors that supplied the air for men and machines.
